My name is Valter Barbero and I am the owner of Cascina Pian d’Or, a winery located in the heart of the Langhe, in Mango. Our story is the result of three generations of dedication to viticulture, beginning with my grandfather Giovanni and continued by my father Giuseppe. Both cultivated Moscato grapes with passion and sacrifice, selling them to the major sparkling wine producers of Piedmont. I decided to take a different path: to transform those golden bunches into a wine capable of telling our story.
As a child, I spent my days in close contact with my grandfather and my father, learning the art of viticulture. Every break among the rows of vines was a magical moment: bread, salami, and a glass of Moscato became a ritual, a small fragment of happiness that stayed with me over time. Those experiences taught me that wine is not just a product: it is a bond with the land, with family, with life. In 1989, at the age of 21, I decided to follow my heart and give a face to my family’s work. It was a bold, almost crazy choice, but the desire to create something of my own, something authentic, was stronger than any obstacle. Every bottle I produce today carries that dream, that passion, and the sacrifices of those who never stopped believing.
Making this dream come true required enormous sacrifices: many called me “crazy,” including my own family. But I knew it was the right path, and nothing would stop me. Today, I look with pride at what we have built: a winery that respects nature, technologies that preserve what the land gives us, and a constant commitment to sustainability. I believe that wine should be a bridge between the past and the future, an experience that conveys authenticity and innovation in every sip.
My greatest dream is to make Moscato d’Asti known all over the world, challenging the prejudices that see it as just a “party wine.” For me, Moscato d’Asti is much more: it’s poetry in a bottle, an expression of beauty and authenticity that deserves to be celebrated every day. I want every glass to tell a story: the story of a generous land, of hardworking hands, and of a passion that knows no boundaries.
