A brief history
We are in San Marzano Oliveto, in the province of Asti, in the factories of Cavalier Dario, one of the most important local wine companies that produce a varied selection of wines, from classic Piedmontese excellences to grappes, to every day wine, dessert and sparkling wines.
The winery of the “Rampant Lion” was founded in 1968, when Dario Bersano and this wife Giuseppina decided to develop his father’s business and devote themselves to producing and bottling selected wines.
In 1992, their son Roberto, at the age of 18, joined the company. Therefore, he decides a strategy to win a big segment of the Italian market and enter the foreign market: renovation of plants and participation in exhibition and promotional activities provide a restyling of the company and its products.
Six years later, Selectvini Srl, a company that gather two historical marks of wine industry in Asti: “ Casa Vinicola Cortese” , created in Canelli in 1875, and “ Casa Vinicola Pistone Luigi”, created in Asti in 1860. This company’s trade is focused on export (80%) with a renewal process to broaden the Cavalier Dario network. “We have an important market segment which consist of Italian customers, but we are also present abroad, especially in Switzerland, England, Canada, Belgium and France where you can find our products in wine bars and restaurants”, says Roberto Bersano.
The production includes classic Piedmontese wines, from Barolo to Barbaresco, from Roero Arneis to Chardonnay and Cortese, from Moscato, another excellence of this winery, to dry and sweets sparkling wines. “We are experiencing a recovery from foreign markets for our wines after some difficult years” – Roberto describes “Cavalier Dario’s philosophy.
