Vinchio Vaglio

I Tre Vescovi” as the flagship wine of the cooperative is now well established, but also of the grape variety and its identity with the territory. This wine is now an unbeatable value for money.

In 2009, “Vigne Vecchie 50” was presented as a part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the winery. The grapes come from vineyards of more than 50 years old.

Bricco Laudana is the name of the most beautiful south-facing ridge located in Vinchio with a perfect south-west exposure in the core area of the Nizza D.O.C.G. This hill is the best vocated area to grow Barbera with ancient roots.

In 1987, in the most avant-garde Italian wine-growing areas, it was mostly thought of replanting old vineyards, replacing them with new plantings, different clones, and dense planting densities. Instead, thanks to a prophetic foresight of the oenologist Giuliano Noè (unanimously considered one of the noble fathers of Barbera, at that time our consultant) Vinchio Vaglio decided to identify the best vineyards of over 50 years old and started producing a wine called ‘Vigne Vecchie’.

In 2001, the magnificent adventure of the ‘Vigne Vecchie’ was joined by a new wine that aims to be the highest quality level reached by a Barbera: the ‘Sei Vigne Insynthesis’. A concerted effort is made between oenologist and agronomist, and some of the best vineyards are identified which are chosen each year to make a synthesis, hence the name. It is a Barbera of great harmony aged in barriques, which is placed at the top of the winery’s quality pyramid and in fact, starting with the 2019 harvest, has been classified as Nizza Riserva DOCG, the highest appellation for a Barbera-based wine. The grapes come from vineyards around 60 years old

Arneis is an indigenous grape of ancient origin cultivated mainly in the Roero. It has delicate and elegant aromas of white flowers and fresh fruit such as apple, peach and hazelnut.

Barbaresco is one of the noblest incarnations of the Nebbiolo grape variety. This wine in young style has a pleasant fruity flavour even if it is often closed on the palate with a tannic finish. During the ageing, the wine reveals typical aromas of violet, dried flowers and spices and the nose develops rich and complex aromas with a softer long finish. A wine for the true connoisseur!

Nebbiolo grapes are found in 11 villages of the Langhe, the hilly area in the south of Alba, where particular soils and climatic conditions enable the grapes to produce the appellation Barolo. Despite the small area, the soils of the eleven villages, all on the ‘right bank of the Tanaro’, present a significant morphological diversity. In fact, some soils produce wines that are clean and silky; others favour the power of the tannins; still others austerity combined with rare elegance. The link between “terroir”, grape variety and history are indissoluble and make Barolo one of the most prestigious and appreciated Italian wines in the world, often defined as “the Wine of the King and the King of Wines”.

This is a red wine, moderately sweet and aromatic made from unique indigenous grape cultivated exclusively in Piedmont in the Provinces of Asti and Alessandria.

Valamasca is the evocative name of an inaccessible and hidden place where, according to the recurring local legend, the witches (in South Piedmont dialect “le masche”) used to meet to comply their mysterious sabbaths. And this is with some mystery when we talk about the Moscato as it is considered the most ancient, if not the oldest, grape variety cultivated in the Eastern Mediterranean basin and in Italy, whose tens of cultivar are known. The origin of its name is mysterious too. Somebody says it derives from latin “muscus” or the fact that it was the favourite grape of the flies “mosche” without mentioning that still in Latin times, its grape was apparently called “apianae” because it was preferred by bees “api”. In short, an unsolved enigma that in no way prejudices to the certainties of its recent history.
